چکیده

In this work we follow the polyethylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles through human skin. Photoluminescence (PL) is used to quantify the amount of these nanocarriers into the layers of the skin stratum corneum (SC). To obtain samples of each layer of SC, tape stripping technique was conducted. Reproducible data were obtained, and the nanoparticles’ distribution in each layer of the SC is presented. Possible applications are in the field of pharmaceutical development, especially concerning drug transport through the skin by nanoparticle carriers.

Mechanism and determinants of nanoparticle penetration through human skin.

The ability of nanoparticles to penetrate the stratum corneum was the focus of several studies. Yet, there are controversial issues available for particle penetration due to different experimental setups. Meanwhile, there is little known about the mechanism and determinants of their penetration. In this paper the penetration of four model gold nanoparticles of diameter 6 and 15 nm, differing in...

Cellular Interactions and Formation of an Epithelial “Nanocoating-Like Barrier” with Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

Oral mucosa as the front-line barrier in the mouth is constantly exposed to a complex microenvironment with multitudinous microbes. In this study, the interactions of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) with primary human gingival epithelial cells were analyzed for up to 72 h, and their diffusion capacity in the reconstructed human gingival epithelia (RHGE) and porcine ear skin models was fu...

Generalized Form of Peeling Skin Syndrome: A Case Report

Peeling skin syndrome (PSS) is a very rare keratinization disorder, characterized by spontaneous exfoliation of the stratum corneum. Herein, we report a case of non-inflammatory (type A) PSS.

Thermodynamic Insights and Conceptual Design of Skin-Sensitive Chitosan Coated Ceramide/PLGA Nanodrug for Regeneration of Stratum Corneum on Atopic Dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex skin disease primarily characterized by psoriasis of the stratum corneum. AD drugs have usually been used in acidic and hydrophilic solvents to supply moisture and prevent lipid defects. Ceramide is a typical treatment agent to regenerate the stratum corneum and relieve symptoms of AD. However, ceramide has limitation on direct use for skin because of its low...

Cutaneous Water Loss and Lipids of the Stratum Corneum in Dusky Antbirds, a Lowland Tropical Bird

The stratum corneum, the outer layer of the epidermis, consists of flattened cells embedded in a matrix of lipids, primarily cholesterol, free fatty acids, ceramides, and cerebrosides. The stratum corneum forms a barrier to water vapor diffusion through the skin. In birds, the skin limits excessive water loss at thermoneutral temperatures, but also serves as a vehicle for thermoregulation durin...
